Weekend Writing Warriors – #8sunday

It’s been a while since I’ve joined in. Being swamped with the final edits for Dark One’s Bride and getting it ready for its release on the 31st, as well as completing To Target the Heart.

But now I’m back! And with a new wip, To Poison a Prince, the sequel to To Target the Heart.

For those of you catching up… Darshan and Hamish are a pair of thirty-something princes from two vastly different lands who are now travelling through the ginormous Udynea Empire that Darshan is from on their way to the capital.

Opening scene, chapter one.

“Come on,” Darshan groaned, flopping his head back against the armrest of his chaise lounge. An age must’ve passed since he had first reclined here and, still, Hamish had yet to emerge from the blasted walk-in wardrobe. How difficult could it be for the man to pull on a few clothes and fasten some toggles? If it had been the same fiddly buttons that adorned Darshan’s outfit, he would’ve understood the delay, but he had expressly demanded ease.

He took another swig of wine, savouring the fruity flavour. Holding up the wineglass allowed the sunlight to glitter through the wine—the rays a splay of prismatic colour thanks to the stained-glass doors at his back.

Those same rainbow-hued beams also warmed the room, which made keeping the balcony doors closed troublesome the longer they lingered. As it was, the doors were closed to not to ward off any chill and contain the bustle out in the courtyard below, but to also give Darshan some reprieve from the endless whispers rustling on the wind. He would need to speak with a hedgewitch about the latter once they arrived at Minamist; there was generally one wondering the palace grounds.

Don’t forget to check out the other excerpts at Weekend Writing Warriors, Snippet Sunday or Rainbow Snippets.

Hamish is finally free to live with the man who won his heart.
If only someone didn’t keep trying to ruin his happily-ever-after.

  1. Love the snippet!

So exciting for the release this week. I think I signed up to be a host next Wednesday, but I haven’t gotten any emails about it yet. Makes me a bit worried.
